For today, I have set out to come out with a brief inspirational post, without being too cheesy or mushy. So please, take this opportunity to enjoy today

“Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence,
The bliss of growth,
The splendor of action,
The glory of power --

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.”

-Sanskrit proverb
by Kalidasa,
Indian poet and playwright,
fourth century A.D.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I tend to live in the future or the past. Whether that is an hour ahead or a day behind, it is far too easy to not be present.
In recovery, people are encouraged to just think about today. The “24 hour plan” is a way of only taking what we can handle and leaving the rest. It is a simple reminder to stay focused on what is important, today. And so I extend this to you, dear reader, no matter who you may be.

Take today just for what it is. One sunrise to one sunset, and see what you can do in this beautiful day that we have. What if it were all you had? What if this were your very first day to live? What would you really want to do?
There is no answer too simple.
